Ha, got you there for a second. I meant Fujifilm.
A couple of days back I was looking through some of my 35mm work from a few years ago, and I thought, “damn, I really like these”. I love the look of film, but I shoot a rather staggering amount of photos, so shooting with digital is the economical choice for me. I also like to know that my photos will actually come out when I take them, a benefit that film doesn’t always provide.
The film simulation features of Fuji cameras have interested me for a long time, and the idea of getting the aesthetic that I want with less time spent editing has been on my mind for a while. Thus, I pulled out the credit card and swiped a big ‘ol purchase: the X-T5 kit with the 16-80mm f4 lens.
The initial results are quite encouraging! I did very minimal editing on these shots and let the camera do the work. Here are a couple of photos from around my neighborhood in Brooklyn.
I was also quite pleasantly surprised by how well the night photos from this guy turned out. I didn’t get this camera with night photography in mind, as I have a Sony full frame that will always be a better bet for low-light scenes.
Where I think the Fuji and its film simulations really shine though, is with daytime shots with some nice golden-hour lighting.
I took a drive down to the Rockaways in Queens last night, where I found some scenes that were just dying to be photographed with a bit of in-camera film simulation hackery.
Anyway, that’s all for now folks!
